I. University Introduction

NEUQ, founded in 1987, is a component of NEU located in Qinhuangdao. It has 10 undergraduate academic schools with 37 majors covering disciplines in economics, literature, science, engineering and management. Its graduate school shares all doctoral and master discipline resources of NEU. Engineering and Materials Science entered ESI Global Top 1% Disciplines. NEUQ and NEU share the same motto "Striving constantly for improvement and behaving in conformity with truth".

NEUQ has established friendly cooperative relationships with over 40 world-renowned universities and research institutions of more than 20 countries and regions. It has developed China-Foreign cooperative education, including a Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution and an undergraduate education program.

NEUQ started international student education in 2016 and has accepted students from more than 20 countries. Several kinds of scholarships are offered to international students. It endeavors to cultivate high-quality international talents for bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees. II. Application Qualifications

1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health.

If either or both of your parents are Chinese citizens who have settled overseas and you obtained foreign nationality at birth and intend to apply for our undergraduate programs, you must provide proof of over 2 full years of overseas residence within the past four years (counted until April 30, 2026). The actual time living abroad for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamp of passport.

If Chinese citizens who have emigrated to other countries apply to study in China as foreign students, they must hold a valid foreign passport or foreign nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive) and must have lived in a foreign country for more than 2 years within the recent 4 years (up to April 30, 2026). A period of 9 months of actual residence abroad within a calendar year shall be counted as one full year, as evidenced by entry/exit stamps in the passport.

3. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

4. HSK Level 5 (180 points) or above is required for programs taught in Chinese. Without the Chinese proficiency certificate, you should apply for Chinese Language study first; For English major and programs taught in English, your mother tongue or official language should be English, or you need to provide English proficiency certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL.

III. Scholarship Application Information

Self-sponsored full-time undergraduate students may apply for one of the following three scholarships (subject to eligibility).

Requirements for the New Student Scholarship

To be eligible for the New Student Scholarship at Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao, you must be a self-funded, full-time undergraduate student who has completed registration for both semesters of their first academic year and with no overdue tuition or accommodation fees. You must hold a high school overall average score of 70 or higher. Furthermore, you must satisfy the specific language proficiency requirements: if you are applying for a Chinese-taught program, you must possess an HSK Level 5 certificate or above; if you are applying for an English-taught program, you must have an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, a TOEFL score of 80 or above, a Duolingo score of 95 or above, or be recognized as having equivalent English proficiency through an interview. This scholarship is equivalent to 50% of the annual tuition fee.

Requirements for the Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Academic Excellence Scholarship is designed to reward full-time undergraduate students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance during their studies. To qualify, students must maintain a clean disciplinary record and have no outstanding tuition or accommodation fees. The selection is primarily based on the student's comprehensive academic performance and GPA ranking within their major for the previous academic year. The scholarship is awarded at three distinct tiers: First Class (covering 50% of the annual tuition), Second Class (covering 30%), and Third Class (covering 20%).

Requirements for the Distinction Scholarship

The Distinction Scholarship is a prestigious award aimed at recognizing students with exceptional achievements in specific areas. To be eligible, students must demonstrate either exceptional academic excellence or outstanding contributions in areas such as student recruitment and the promotion of Chinese culture. The scholarship fully covers all tuition fees and accommodation expenses.The Distinction Scholarship cannot be awarded concurrently with either the New Student Scholarship or the Academic Distinction Scholarship in the same academic year.

IV. Self-sponsored project application

1.Application period: Dec 1, 2025—June 30, 2026

(Application deadlines will be adjusted according to the date of the entrance examination and may close early)

2. Application method:

Apply on NEUQ website. The NEUQ online application portal:  http://studyinneu.neu.edu.cn or http://neu.17gz.org. Please register with your email address and complete the application by following instructions on the website. One email address can be used to create one account. There is no need to post the hard copies.

3. Required documents

(1) Graduation certificate of high school and its Chinese translation

(2) Transcript of high school and its Chinese translation

(3) Study plan at NEUQ (of at least 800 words in Chinese or English. Please elaborate on the majors you intend to pursue at NEUQ.)

(4) photocopy of the passport information page

(5) Photocopy of a empty visa page /unused passport page

(6) Foreigner Physical Examination Record

(7) Language proficiency certificate

(8) Non-Criminal Record Report

(9) Guardian’s Letter of Guarantee (only required for applicants under the age of 18)

(10) If you are in China now, you need to submit all the Chinese visa pages, Chinese entry stamp and Chinese exit stamp pages of your passport (Please note the time continuity of the visa pages.) and Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors from Overseas.

(11) The Chinese Subject Competence Assessment results. Students need to take the corresponding subject assessment according to the applied major. For detailed subjects to be taken, please refer to the list of majors.


4. Fee

(1) Application Fee: RMB 400

(2) Accommodation fee: RMB 40 per person per day.

(3) Tuition fee: 

Majors in humanities: RMB 16,000 per academic year

Majors in science and engineering: RMB 20,000 per academic year

The duration of the course is 4 years.

(4) Insurance fee: Self-sponsored students need to purchase insurance according to the requirements of the school. You can choose the insurance plan. The minimum insurance premium is RMB 1000 per person per academic year.

(5) Payment method: bank card, bank transfer, etc.

(6) Payment date: Admitted students will receive a tuition payment notice. All fees shall be paid by the specified deadline.

(A living allowance is granted for ten months each academic year, at a standard rate of RMB 500 per month.)


V. Entrance examination and admission review

NEUQ will organize the entrance examination according to the requirements. Please pay attention to the registration information of the subsequent examination. Register and participate in the entrance examination on time. Each school/college will assess students' academic ability through interviews, material review and other forms. Please ensure your contact information remains accessible.

NEUQ will verify original documents including passports, visas, academic certificates, transcripts and proof of education & work experience when students register. Enrollment procedures can only be completed upon successful preliminary verification. After admission, the school will carry out a qualification review in line with national enrollment rules. Anyone who fails either the on-site preliminary check or the post-admission qualification review will have their admission revoked. Students with revoked admission status must cover their own travel costs and depart China before their visas expire.

VIII. Q&A

Q1: How do I apply for the New Student Scholarship?
A1: After enrollment, a notice will be issued the second semester of the first academic year to guide you through the application process.

Q2: What is the online application portal?

A2: If you apply for self-sponsored, you must apply at NEUQ online application system.

Q3: May I fill in the application by hand rather than the online application?
A3: No, you must complete the online application and submit.
Q4: Besides online application, do I need to send the hard copy?
A4: You do not need to submit the hard copy at the application stage. After your application, if you  receive an admission offer, you must provide the original graduation certificate and transcript for verification during registration. Only after the verification, can you go through the admission procedures. Those who fail the verification shall not be admitted and must purchase the ticket to leave China within the validity period of the visa at your own expense.
Q5: If I don’t have a passport, how should I fill in the passport info?
A5: You cannot apply without a passport. Please apply for passport in advance.
Q6: Do I need to have my high school graduation certificate, the transcript and its Chinese translation notarized?
A6: Notarized graduation certificate, the transcript and its Chinese translation are recommended.
Q7: When can I get the result?
A7: Please keep an eye on status changes in the application system. We will update the application status in the application system and also send you an email.
Q8: I am a self-sponsored student and have personal life insurance. Do I need to buy the insurance?
A8: Yes. According to the Interim Regulations on Colleges and universities requiring foreign students to purchase insurance, Private personal insurance policies are not accepted for enrollment or residence permit applications and residence permit application in China. After you are admitted, the school will inform you of the details of how to purchase insurance.
Q9: I am a self-sponsored student, must I attend The Chinese Subject Competence Assessment (CSCA) result?
A9: Yes, you must.
